Directed by Rahul Srivastava, the short film stars Kumud Mishra and Lubna Salim.
A crabby father, an exasperated mother and an indifferent son. This is pretty much a typical family scenario that Itwaar (Sunday) takes us into. Directed by Rahul Srivastava, the short film offers a vignette of the concerns and reactions of a family as they go through a period of adjustment.
The patriarch of the Verma family (Kumud Mishra) is as irritable as they come. The family has moved to a new city to facilitate the coaching classes of their son, Ankur. As overprotective parents, they feel that their son cannot manage in a hostel by himself. However, the hypochondriac father finds fault with everything and, on a Sunday, which is a holiday, the issues are exacerbated.
With a generally crabby demeanour, the father keeps picking on his son. Everything from stray dogs to the choice of food irritates him. The family is quite fed up of his conduct and is trying to make peace with it in the best way it possibly can.
Mishra is fabulous as the curmudgeon with a permanent frown on his face, as is Lubna Salim as the woman in the house, trying to deal with her husband’s antics. She is the perfect foil to her husband, conveying both her irritability as well as her affection for him.
The understated, effortless performances along with the humour lifts up this peek into human behaviour. It also makes us realize that most of our problems are blown up inside our heads. A valuable lesson for the post-pandemic gloom. Click here to watch the film.
