The mini-series of 24 episodes is about a couple who are trying virtual dating in the COVID lockdown period.

Dice Media has released the second season of its one-of-its-kind mini-series Firsts available on their YouTube channel. Like the first season, the second season consists of 24 episodes with an average runtime of a minute. While the first season was about a teenage love story in school, the second is about online dating, especially in this COVID-19 lockdown period.

Aman (Pranay Manchanda) and Tanya (Kriti Vij) are matched on a dating app and hit it off instantly. The series tracks their relationship from the start as they flirt, discuss their likes and dislikes, and their aspirations and goes on to their first virtual date, arguments, and patch-up.

Their relationship has a general arc like any other. We don't learn much about either character because the series doesn't have the luxury of time to explore characters in depth, but the realistic interactions between Aman and Tanya make up for that shortcoming.

Kriti Vij and Pranay Manchanda are a real-life couple and their natural chemistry is quite evident. The show has been shot entirely at home and its easy-going and simple nature keeps you hooked despite it offering nothing new.

Though there is, of course, a semblance of a story, the mini-series does not have a standard plot. More than a continuous story, it feels like 24 skits on different stages of a relationship, a condensed version of what we have seen innumerable times before. There are already many skits available on YouTube on the early stage of relationships such as the first date, the first argument, and the first patch-up.

Pranav Tonsekar, who has written the mini-series, does a decent job at condensing the arc of a relationship into just 24 minutes, though it means he had to gloss over or ignore some topics which are usually discussed by a couple at the start of their relationship.

Overall, season 2 of Firsts is a decent watch for its experimental storytelling and for some cute moments. It helps that the entire season ends within 24 minutes.
