Director, actor and screenwriter Sujoy Ghosh was born in Calcutta and completed his schooling from St. James' School. When he was 13, he and his family shifted to London where he got his degree in engineering and then an MBA from Manchester University. He briefly worked with Reuters and quit his job in 1999.

Ghosh made his directorial debut with Jhankar Beats (2003). Conceived as a tribute to R D Burman and his work, the film is a story about love, friendship and music. The film starred Rahul Bose, Sanjay Suri, Juhi Chawla, Rinke Khanna, Riya Sen and Shayan Munshi in the lead roles. It was appreciated by critics and audiences alike.

Next, he directed Home Delivery (2005) and Aladin (2009), which did not fare well at the box office. However, his next film Kahaani (2012) became a massive hit, winning him the Filmfare Award for Best Director as well. Starring Vidya Balan, the film is a mystery thriller that tells the story of a pregnant woman searching for her missing husband in the streets of Kolkata. The film also stars Parambrata Chatterjee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and was written by Ghosh and Advaita Kala.

His latest release is the Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan starrer Te3n (2016).

He is also known for having written the tagline "Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo Re" for the IPL Team Kolkata Knight Riders. He is married to a psychologist and has two children with her.
