She turned a singer at the young age of six, with a song she sang in her father Kamal Haasan’s production Thevar Magan (1992) under the famous composer Ilaiyaraaja. She sang in another of her father’s films, Chachi 420 (1997), this time a duet with her father. She had even sung the bilingual versions of “Rama Rama” in Hindi as well as in Tamil for the film Hey Ram (2000). Here she also played a minor role, that of Sardar Patel’s daughter. The well-trained voice released her debut album in 2009, which also showed that she was a competent composer and songwriter as well. Her first Tamil film music composition was in the 2009 drama thriller Unnaipol Oruvan (2009).
She also did playback singing for her debut Hindi film, the Soham Shah directed Luck (2009). Haasan had even teamed up with Dave Kushner for Jennifer Chambers Lynch’s Hisss (2010). She sang a song in the film and had appeared in one of the film’s promotional videos.
In 2011, Haasan did her second Hindi film, Madhur Bhandarkar’s Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji (2011). She then appeared in Aishwariya Dhanush’s Tamil romantic psychological thriller film 3 (2012), starring Dhanush. In the same year, she starred in Harish Shankar’s Telugu film Gabbar Singh (2012), which was a remake of the Hindi film Dabangg (2010). She went on to appear in Tevar (2015), Gabbar is Back (2015) and Welcome Back (2015), and has become a well known icon in the industry.
Haasan is active in Tamil and Hindi cinema, and also continues to compose music and also endorses a few brands.
Her most recent appearance was in the Hindi film Rocky Handsome (2016) alongside John Abraham.
