Shraddha Kapoor

The pretty Shraddha Kapoor, daughter of veteran actor Shakti Kapoor and niece of 1980s star Padmini Kolhapure, is a leading Hindi film star. She was born on 3 March 1989 in Bombay and completed her schooling from the renowned Jamnabai Narsee school in Juhu. Shraddha Kapoor then joined the prestigious Boston university in the United States to learn theatre but left midway to make her acting debut with the Hindi film Teen Patti (2010) alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Ben Kingsley and R Madhavan.

After her debut, the actress was offered Luv Ka The End (2011) with Taaha Shah by Yash Raj Films. Later that year, she signed a three-film contract with the production house but the offer was later withdrawn when it became known that Kapoor had signed up for Mahesh Bhatt's Aashiqui 2 (2013). This proved to be an excellent decision as the romantic musical drama directed by Mohit Suri went on to become a blockbuster. Kapoor's performance was also appreciated by audiences and critics.

Kapoor teamed up with Suri once more for the thriller Ek Villain (2014), for which she also turned singer with 'Galliyan'. The actress then showed her versatility with Vishal Bhardwaj's critically acclaimed drama Haider (2014), an adaptation of William Shakespeare's Hamlet. She played a young Kashmiri woman in the film, and her performance was widely appreciated. The talented actress then showed off her dancing skills in ABCD 2 (2015).

In a short span of time with just a few films under her belt, Kapoor had become a rising star of Hindi cinema and a formidable rival for established actresses. However, the actress then hit a series of speed bumps, with one project after another bombing at the box office, with the exception of Baaghi (2016), which was largely a Tiger Shroff vehicle. But Shraddha Kapoor's career was brought back on the rails by first-time director Amar Kaushik's horror comedy Stree (2018), co-starring Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi. The film became the year's biggest sleeper hit.
