Born in Dehradun, Uttrakhand to Col. Suraj Prakash Ahuja and his wife on May 15, 1975, young Ahuja completed his schooling from St.Xavier’s, Ranchi and Army Public School, New Delhi. In school, he was a sportsman, who excelled in football, basketball and cricket.It was then that he also realised his passion for acting and that got him admission in Hansraj College, Delhi University (through the dramatics quota). Still in college, Ahuja attended several acting workshops with the National School of Drama, New Delhi. Later, he even joined the theatre group 'Tag' where he met Barry John (theatre director) and shortly thereafter joined Barry John’s Acting School in Delhi.
After college, the good-looking boy got his first advertistment for the big brand Pepsi that instantly brought him into the spotlight. The fresh face was was flooded with offers; in all, he worked in over 40 commercials.
Ahuja then debuted with Sudhir Mishra’s film Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2003). This won him the Star Screen Award, the Filmfare Award, and the Zee Cine Award for the Best Male Debut. After this, he played the lead role in Mahesh Bhatt’s film Gangster (2006). The film was a major commerical success and his performance was commended by audiences and critics alike. After a series of successful films, Ahuja bagged some interesting roles in films that included Life in a Metro (2007), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) and Hijack (2008).
However, Ahuja experienced a bad phase between 2009 and 2011, amidst accusations of sexually assaulting his maid, as well as decreasing popularity. He recently returned to the lime-light, and not for the wrong reasons, with his role in Aneez Bazmi’s film Welcome Back (2015).
