Satyadev Dubey Biography

The eminent personality was born in Bilaspur, Madhya Pradesh in the year 1936. His aspiration to become a cricketer made him move to Bombay (now Mumbai), he but ended up joining a theatre unit by Ebrahim Alkazi, who also ran a school for budding artists. After a few years of training when Alkazi moved to Delhi to head the National School of Drama, Dubey took over the Theatre Unit and produced many many plays. Seasoned actor Girsh Karnad's first play Yayati (1961) was produced by Dubey.One of his most popular plays was Hayavadana (1971). The audience loved the story lining and the imaging of the characters in the play.
Dubey’s other significant plays include Badal Sarkar’s Ebang Indrajit and Pagla Ghoda, Chandrashekhara Kambara’s Aur Tota Bola (Jokumaraswamy in original Kannada), Mohan Rakesh’s Aadhe Adhure, Vijay Tendulkar’s Khamosh! Adalat Jaari Hai, and A Raincoat For All Occasions and Jean Anouilh's Antigone in 2007. All these plays gave him immense popularity and fame as a theatre personality.
Dubey’s next calling were short films; two of his very popular short films were Aparichay Ke Vindhachal (1965) and Tongue in Cheek (1968). He then donned the hat of screenplay and dialogue writer for films like Ankur (1974), Nishant (1975), Bhumika (1977), Junoon (1978) Kalyug (1980), Vijeta (1982) and Mandi (1983). He even bagged the National Award for Best Screenplay for Bhumika.
Dubey also worked as an actor in some popular films like Hanan (2004), Maya (1961) , Godam (1983), Anugraham (1978), Kondura (The stage from the sea)(1978) and Nisshant (1975).
The multi-talented personality passed away on 25th December 2011.
