S.H. Bihari Biography

Born in 1922 in the district of Ara in Bihar, Bihari completed his graduation from Presidency College in Calcutta. After completing his degree, Bihari joined a rubber factory as an assistant manager.
In 1947, Bihari moved to Bombay and began to write for the Hindi film industry. With Sashadhar Mukherjee’s Shart (1954), Bihari was able to establish himself within the industry with songs such as ‘Na Yeh Chand Hoga’, ‘Dekho Woh Chand Chupke’, ‘Mohabbat Mein Meri Tarah’, and ‘Jana Na Chodke.’ By the late 1950s and 60s, his collaboration with music composer O P Nayyar became very popular.
Bihari penned some exceptional songs over the next two decades, such as ‘Ikraar Kare Kis Se, Inkaar Kare Kis Ko’, ‘Mere Dil Mein Kya Hai’, and ‘Tumse Milkar Na Jaane’, which gave Bihari a formidable position in the avenue of music within the film industry.
Over three decades after his death in 1986, Bihari continues to be remembered for his immortal songs and his popularity as a romantic lyricist.
