Rakhi Sawant Biography

Born : 25 November 1978

Rakhi Sawant, also known as ‘item girl’, ‘drama queen’, is a Mumbaiite, born on 25th November, 1978. Her original name is Neeru Bheda. She did her schooling from Goklibai High School in the Vile Parle ad earned her graduation degree in Arts from Mithibai College.

Before getting a break in the film industry, she did odd jobs like that of a server in Tina Munim-Anil Ambani wedding. She then made her film debut in Agnnichakr (1997). The film received mixed reviews, but her performance was noticed by some of the eminent personalities in the industry. After this, she did some small roles and dance numbers in the low-budget Bollywood films like Joru Ka Ghulam (2000), Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain (2000) and Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke (2001). All these films gave her the much needed exposure. In 2003, she danced on ‘item numbers’ in films like Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne and many more. Sawant also did minor role in films like Masti (2004) and Main Hoon Na (2004).
 
In the year 2007, she made her singing debut in the album Super Girl launched by Venus Records & Tapes Pvt. Ltd. After this, she diceided to choose her life partner through the TV show ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamwar’ (2009). Here, she did choose Elesh Parujanwala - a contestant from Toronto, Canada, worked with him in another reality show, but eventually broke up with him due to compatibility differences after a few months. She has participated in many other known reality shows and been a stage performer as well. 

Sawant has had her share of controversies as well. Be it being charged for obscenity, being forcibly kissed by singer Mika at a party, or slapping her then-boyfriend in public, she has been one of the favourites of Page 3 reporters. 

However, Sawant has been active in social work as well. In 2014, she announced that she would contest the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and founded the party Rashtriya Aam Party (RAP).  However, she lost and joined RPI (Athavale) party in June, 2014
