Mouni Roy, granddaughter of Jatra theatre artiste Shekhar Chandra Roy, is a popular television and film actress and model. Her father, Anil Roy, is an office superintendent with the Cooch Behar district council while her mother, Mukti, is a theatre artiste. Mouni studied in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Baburhat, Cooch Behar, until class XII and enrolled for the mass communication course at the Jamia Millia Islamia, a public central university in Delhi. But she soon discontinued her education and moved to Mumbai to become an actress. She is a trained Kathak dancer.

Mouni Roy's first appearance on the big screen was as a background dancer in the song 'Nahi Hona Nahi Hona' from the film Run (2004). She began her television acting career with the hit show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (2007), in which she played the role of Krishna Tulsi. In 2008, she participated in the Star Plus show Zara Nachke Dikha (she won along with Jennifer Winget and Karishma Tanna) and played the role of Shivani Sabbarwal in the TV serial Kasturi.

In 2009, Mouni Roy participated in Pati Patni Aur Woh and played the role of Roop in the Zee TV show Do Saheliyaan. She also acted in the horror show Sshhh... Phir Koi Hai (Tritiya) (2010). But her popularity grew with her role as Sita in the mythological series Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev (2011-2014). During this period, she played the role of Meera in Junoon – Aisi Nafrat Toh Kaisa Ishq (2012).

Mouni Roy's popularity soared with her double role as Shivanya Ritik Singh and Shivangi Rocky Pratap Singh in the supernatural series Naagin on the Colors channel. She starred in the first and second seasons of the show (2015-2017). The first season was among the highest-rated TV shows in India that year. Roy was also one of the finalists in the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (2014). She hosted the show So You Think You Can Dance (2016) on &TV and participated in Lip Sing Battle (2017) on the Star Plus channel.

Mouni Roy starred in the Punjabi film Hero Hitler In Love (2011). Her big break in Hindi cinema came with Gold (2018), opposite Akshay Kumar, where she played Monobina, wife of the protagonist Tapan Das. She will also star in the ALT Balaji web-series Mehrunissa. In 2019, Mouni Roy will be seen in three major films — Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra, RAW: Romeo Akbar Walter and Made In China.
