Singer and actor Monica Dogra was born on 25th October, 1982 in Baltimore, Maryland. This US citizen of Indian origin earned a Bachelor's degree in Music from New York University in 2004. And in 2005, teaming with guitarist Randolph Correia, she created the electro-rock group Shaa'ir & Func. The band’s first album New Day: The Love Album was released in 2007, followed by Light Tribe in 2008 and Mantis in 2010. The albums were well received by the audience and her powerful voice was appreciated. In the Hindi film industry, she has lent her voice to the song “Dooriyan Bhi Hai Zaroori” with Vishal Dadlani for the film Break Ke Baad (2010) and the title track for the film Inkaar (2013) with Shahid Mallya.

In the acting arena, she first made a guest appearance in the film Rock On!! (2008). After that, she was approached by director Kiran Rao for the lead role in her directorial debut film Dhobi Ghat (2011). The film opened to mixed reviews. Her performance in the film was appreciated and she came into the notice of some eminent film makers. She was next seen in David (2012).

Meanwhile, the musician in her always kept busy. In 2011, she was a judge for Rolling Stone’s Never Hide Sounds musical talent contest. She also hosted of the show Dewarist on Star World India. In 2013, she performed with award winning violinist Scott Tixier, on a series of shows sponsored by Dos Equis around the US.

The talented lady featured on the cover page of FHM Magazine in 2014. She recently appeared in the film Teraa Surroor (2015) alongside Himesh Reshammiya.
