Master Alankar Biography

Born :

Alankar Joshi, popularly known as Master Alankar, was a child artist who worked during the 1970s and early 80s, in over a hundred Hindi films. He gained popularity when he played the role of young Amitabh Bachchan in Yash Chopra's cult classic, Deewar (1995). During the 1970s and early 1980s, Alankar was one of the most sought after child actors and worked in a number of blockbuster hits of the time, such as Sholay (1978), Don (1978), Seeta Aur Geeta (1972), Dream Girl (1977) amongst many others.

During the peak of his career, Alankar worked with the major production houses of Hindi films. The golden period of his work was in the 1990s when he was cast by top filmmakers like Yash Chopra, Chandra Barot and Raj Kapoor. He continued working in Hindi films till the late 1980s but by then, the choice of roles had declined rapidly. Like many child artists of Hindi cinema who made a mark in the early part of their career but faded away from the limelight as he grew older; Master Alankar too established himself as a popular actor but couldn't sustain his stardom beyond the age-defined character role.

After a few attempts at launching himself as a main lead in films, he quit films and left for New York for higher studies. Alankar made a career in the field of computer software and now owns an IT business that is spread across the globe.

His family ties however kept him connected to films. His sister Pallavi Joshi also worked in Hindi films during the 1980s and 90s and later made a mark in television.
