Mamta Kulkarni Biography

Born : 23 March 1973

Actress Mamta Kulkarni comes from a Marathi family living in Mumbai. Her acting career lasted for only for 10 years, but she managed to make a mark in the film industry. She received instatnt popularity for her bold performance in her Bollywood debut movie Tiranga (1992). However, she got a substantial role only in Aashiq Awara (1993) opposite Saif Ali Khan. The film opened to positive reviews and was a huge commercial success. Her performance bagged her Filmfare Award for Lux New Face of the Year.

In the year 1995, she was seen in hit films like Karan Arjun – starring Shah Rukh Khan and Salman khan and Sabse Bada Khiladi, with Akshay Kumar. The sensual actress was also offered many ‘item songs’, thanks to her dancing skills. She also acted in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Malayalam films.  

Kulkarni played a cameo role in the film China Gate (1998), a remake of Seven Samurai. The film received positive reviews and her small role in the film was much appreciated by the critics and the masses. However, due to her soured relation with the film’s director, the actress’ reign started fading away from the industry.
 
She made some bland appearances in films like Censor (2001) and Kabhie Tum Kabhie Hum (2002) before quitting the film industry.
