Mallika Sherawat Biography
Born : 24 October 1976, in Rohtak, Haryana, India
Height: 5′ 6″ (1.7 m)
Sherawat was first seen on the silver screen in a small role in Jeena Sirf Merre Liye (2002). Here, she was credited as Reema Lamba, the name she changed to avoid being confused with another actress with the same name. However, it was with the film Khwahish (2003) that she came into the limelight. The film, which was loosely based on Erich Segal’s Love Story, was well received. Her next film, Murder (2004), which was inspired by the American production Unfaithful (2002), got her noticed as a daring actress who did not shy away from erotic roles. The film went on to become one of the biggest hits of the year.
Sherawat crossed borders for the first time to work in The Myth (2005), a Chinese film, co-starring Jackie Chan. Local audiences too got to see more of the actress in movies like Pyaar Ke Side Effects (2006), also starring Rahul Bose. The romantic comedy was well received by the masses and critics. Apart from that she appeared in Darna Zaroori Hai (2006) and Shaadi Se Pehle (2006). She made a special appearance in the critically acclaimed film Guru (2007) in the song "Mayya Mayya”.
However, both her releases in 2008 - Ugly Aur Pagli (2008) and Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam (2008), could not get the box office cash registers ringing. Yet, Sherawat not only continued to act in Hindi films, and even a few Tamil and Kannada films, but also did special ‘item songs’ for various movies.
Sherawat was once again seen in a Hollywood film Hisss (2009), co-starring Irrfan Khan and directed by Jennifer Lynch. The film, based on the legend of Naga, is an independent co-production between the United States and India. She starred in another Hollywood film, Politics of Love (2011), also known as Love, Barack (2011), directed by William Dear. In 2012, she featured with American pop star Bruno Mars in his parody video of “Salt-N-Pepa Whatta Man” for the comedy website Funny or Die
From Hisar to Mumbai and then to Hollywood, Sherawat believes if she can break the shackles of tradition to pursue her dreams, then any girl can. Her most recent appearance was in the film Dirty Politics (2015).
