Kanu Behl Biography

Born : 13 June 1980, in Kapurthala, Punjab, India

Kanu Behl is the son of Navnindra and Lalit Behl, the writer-actor-directors who made tele-films for the state-run Doordarshan channel. Born on 13th June 1980, he completed his schooling from Apeejay School, Noida and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Delhi University.

He joined the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in 2003 to acquire a Postgraduate Diploma in Cinema. During his tenure there, he got the opportunity to attend the Berlinale Talent Campus 2007, where he made his own documentary An Actor Prepares.

After earning his diploma, he produced and directed documentaries for international channels like NHK, Japan and ZDF/Arte. Behl also worked with Dibakar Banerjee on the feature film Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008) as an assistant director.

He co-wrote the critically acclaimed Love Sex aur Dhokha (2010) with Banerjee and was the chief assistant director on the project.

In 2012, the script of his first independent feature film Titli (2015), was selected by NFDC for the Screenwriters' Lab 2012, which later won the Post-Production Award at Film Bazaar'sWork-In-Progress Lab in 2013.  Titli (2015), his directorial debut, excelled and been honored at several prestigious international film festivals since its completion.

The talented film writer and director has achieved numerous international achievements. These include awards from the Gijon International Film Festival, Seattle South Asian Film Festival, and Malatya International.
