Juhi Chaturvedi Biography

Born : 03 January 1975, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India

Juhi Chaturvedi is a film screenwriter based in Mumbai who wrote the story, screenplay and dialogues for Vicky Donor (2012) and Piku (2015). In addition, she has written dialogues for the critically acclaimed film Madras Café (2013).

Chaturvedi graduated in Fine Arts from the College of Arts, Lucknow, and started her career as a freelance illustrator with Lucknow edition of The Times of India newspaper. In 1996, she shifted to Delhi to join Ogilvy & Mather Advertising as an art director. In 1999, she moved to the Mumbai office of the agency and went on to become executive creative director. After creating significant ad campaigns for brands like Cadbury’s, Unilever, Sprite, Fanta, P&G, and Colgate, Chaturvedi quit advertising to pursue a full-time career in the Indian film industry.

Vicky Donor, Chaturvedi's first film, was not only a socially relevant film, it was also one of the most awarded and loved films of 2012. She went on to win the prestigious Filmfare, IIFA, Guild, Jaagran, IDRS and National awards for her work on Vicky Donor.

Piku, Chaturvedi's second film, told the poignant tale of the unconditional relationship of a father and daughter. She won two National film awards in 2016 for Best Story and Best Dialogues. Chaturvedi was also awarded the TOIFA (screenplay), Filmfare award for Best Screenplay), IIFA awards for Best Story and Best Dialogues, Zee awards for Story, Screenplay and Dialogues, Screen award for Dialogues and Jaagran award for her writing for Piku.

Born and brought up in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Chaturvedi finds her inspiration from the day-to-today lives of common people, their struggles, dilemmas and pleasures.
