Guddi Maruti Biography

Born : 04 April 1959, in India

Guddi Maruti is an Indian film and television actress and comedienne. She was born on April 4, 1959, and though she initially aspired to become an air-hostess, she eventually followed in the footsteps of her father Marutirao Ganpatrao Parab (better known as just ‘Maruti’), who was also an actor and comedian.

She made her debut in film with a supporting role the drama film Sau Din Saas Ke (1980). In the following years, she appeared in a number of small roles in mainstream Hindi films, including the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Naseeb (1981), and Bezubaan (1982), starring Shashi Kapoor and Reena Roy. Maruti went on to become all the more popular and appeared in numerous films, including Mukul Anand’s Hum (1991), David Dhawan’s Deewana Mastana (1997) and Harmesh Malhotra’s Dulhe Raja (1998)

Maruti became known for her comic roles, many of which relied greatly on her large size, and she has joked about being the only actress in the industry who is afraid of losing weight. In this respect, she is often compared to the actress, singer and comedienne Tun Tun (Uma Devi Khatri).

Besides acting in over 125 films in her career, Maruti became well known for her humourous performances on television. One of her iconic stints was on the comedy show Sorry Meri Lorry (1998), which she landed after a guest appearance on the show Saanp Seedi during which she caught the attention of the director Adi Pocha with her sense of humour, following which he cast her in his next project.

After the early 2000s, Maruti’s appearances on screen became fewer and further apart, and she was last seen in new releases with Shyam Ramsay’s Bachao - Inside Bhoot Hai (2010) and K.C. Bokadia’s Khuda Kasam (2010).
