Boney Kapoor (born Achal Kapoor) is a film producer. He is the oldest son of the late producer Surinder Kapoor and elder brother of actors and producers Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor.

Boney Kapoor married Mona Shourie in 1983. They have two children, actor Arjun Kapoor and Anshula. He married actress Sridevi in 1996 and they have two daughters, actress Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi.

Mona Kapoor died after a long battle with cancer on 25 March 2012. Sridevi died of drowning in a Dubai hotel on 24 February 2018.

Boney Kapoor’s first film as a producer was Hum Paanch (1980). He then co-produced the film Woh Saat Din (1983) with his father. His next was the sci-fi film Mr India (1987) which was a big hit and also became a cult classic. The film starring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi is listed among the 100 greatest Indian films of all time.

In 1992, Boney Kapoor produced Raat and Drohi. In 1993, he produced the Hindi action comedy Roop ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, India’s most expensive film till then, starring Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Jackie Shroff. The film bombed.

Boney Kapoor’s next films as producer were Prem (1995), his brother Sanjay’s debut as actor, Loafer (1996), Judaai (1997), Sirf Tum (1999), Pukar (2000), Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai (2000) and Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe (2002).

In 2002, he produced Ram Gopal Varma’s crime thriller movie Company that revolved around Mumbai’s mafia. The film bagged seven Filmfare awards and three IIFA awards. He went on to produce Shakti (2002), Khushi (2003), Run (2004), Kyun! Ho Gaya Na... (2004), Bewafaa (2005) and No Entry (2005).

Kapoor produced Wanted in 2009 in which Salman Khan made a comeback as the box office champion. The film broke many box office records in India as well as in Pakistan.

He will be making his debut in Tamil cinema with a remake of the Hindi film Pink (2016) and has reportedly signed southern star Ajith for the role played in the original by Amitabh Bachchan.

He has launched many artistes, including his own brothers Anil and Sanjay and actresses Tabu and Esha Deol.
