Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu, now known as Bipasha Basu Singh Grover, is a model and actress who has worked in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, and English language films. Bipasha is the daughter of Hirak Basu, a civil engineer, and Mamta, a homemaker. She has two sisters, Bidisha and Vijayeta. She did her schooling from Apeejay High School, Delhi. After the Basus relocated to Calcutta, she studied at Bhavan's Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir.

After completing high school, Bipasha Basu initially took up medical science but soon opted for commerce. In 1996 model Mehr Jesia Rampal spotted Bipasha Basu and suggested that she consider modeling. Following her advice, Basu participated in and won the Godrej Cinthol Supermodel Contest. Thereafter she appeared in several commercials and on magazine covers as she pursued a career in modeling.

Basu has mostly worked in horror and thriller movies. She made her acting debut with Abbas-Mustan's Ajnabee (2001) with Akshay Kumar and Bobby Deol. The next year, she made her Telugu cinema debut with the action comedy Takkari Donga (2002) opposite Mahesh Babu. The film was released as Vetri Veeran in Tamil.

The same year, Basu starred in Vikram Bhatt’s supernatural thriller Raaz (dubbed in Tamil and Telugu as Rahasyam) opposite Dino Morea, her then-boyfriend, and was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress award.

The following year, she played the lead in Amit Saxena’s erotic thriller Jism (2003) opposite John Abraham, who went on to replace Dino Morea in her life and was to be her live-in partner for close to a decade and was nominated for the Filmfare award for Best Performance in a Negative Role.

Over the years Bipasha Basu has acted in several movies like Footpath (2003), Aetbaar (2004), Rudraksh (2004), Barsaat (2005), No Entry (2005), Darna Zaroori Hai (2006), Phir Hera Pheri (2006), Corporate (2006), Omkara (2006), Dhoom 2 (2006), Race (2008), Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), Dum Maaro Dum (2011), Players (2012), Jodi Breakers (2012), Raaz 3D (2012), Race 2 (2013), Humshakals (2014), Creature 3D (2014) and Alone (2015).

In 2009, she starred in Rituparno Ghosh’s Bengali movie Shob Choritro Kalponik.

She hosted the television show Darr Sabko Lagta Hai (2015-16).

She won the Filmfare award for Best Female Debut for Ajnabee.

Bipasha Basu is known for her fitness regime and has released some fitness DVDs. She is the brand ambassador for many products. She married actor Karan Singh Grover in 2016.
