Vyas began his prolific career within the Bombay film industry after completing his education in commerce. Though Vyas initially moved to Bombay to become a filmmaker himself, he ended up getting an opportunity to work on his first film as a lyricist in VM Vyas's Duhai (1943).
In subsequent years, he worked on a number of films with SK Pal and rendered successful songs such as 'Ae Chand Na Itraana' (Man Ki Jeet, 1944) and 'Iss Nashwar Sansaar Mein' (Ghulami, 1945).
Vyas made his directorial debut with the film Rangila Rajasthan (1949). The film did not fare well at the box office and he returned to writing lyrics for films. Bharat Vyas's association with SN Tripathi also produced some very successful compositions of the time in films such as Rani Roopmati (1957), Chandramukhi (1960) and Lal Qila (1960), among many others.
Vyas worked on a number of film projects with veteran actor-director Shantaram and the two made many successful musical collaborations from Toofan Aur Diya (1956) till Chaani (1977).
Bharat Vyas passed away in 1982 while he was still working on two films.
