Apoorva Lakhia Biography
Born : , in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India
Before stepping into the film industry as a director, Lakhia worked as an assistant director to Ashutosh Gowariker’s on his highly acclaimed film Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001). He had also assisted various renowned directors in numerous Hollywood films such as Andrew Davis’ thriller A Perfect Murder (1998), Griffin Dunne’s romantic comedy Addicted to Love (1997) and Ang Lee’s drama film titled The Ice Storm (1997). He made his directorial debut with the film Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost (2003).
Later, he directed the film Ek Ajnabee (2005) which was the remake of the Hollywood film Man on Fire (2004). The film fetched him many positive reviews.
His next venture was Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007), a film based on real-life events that took place at the 1991 Lokhandwala Complex shootout, which was a real-life gun battle between gangsters and the Mumbai Police. The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Amitabh Bachchan, Sunil Shetty, Vivek Oberoi in leading roles. It was critically acclaimed but courted controversy for its depiction of events as well. In the same year, Lakhia directed a short story titled Sex on the Beach for the anthology film Dus Kahaniyaan (2007).
The year after that saw him release Mission Istanbul (2008) starring Vivek Oberoi and Shriya Saran.
In 2013, he directed the remake of the breakthrough film Zanjeer (1973) both in Hindi and Telugu.
