Anupama Verma Biography

Born : 02 July 1981

Height: 5' 6″ (1.7 m)

Anupama Verma was born in Delhi on July 2, 1981. Her father was a fighter pilot in the air force, and her childhood was spent in multiple cities across India, attending as many as nine different schools. She began modelling when she was in the 9th grade in Delhi, after being discovered by photographer Shantanu Sheorey and working on a campaign for Digjam. Though she proceeded to appear in a number of ad campaigns over the next few years, Verma maintained that modelling at the time was a hobby, not a career, and she remained in Delhi to complete her Masters in Business Economics.

It wasn’t until 1997, upon featuring in a music video for the song “Boom Boom”, that she turned to modelling and acting as a full-time occupation. She moved to Mumbai and along with appearing in several other music videos including a remix of “Bheegi Bheegi Raaton Mein” by Leslie Lewis, began working as a video jockey for Channel V. Soon after, she signed on her first film, Grahan (2001), but the film did not release until a few years later in 2001, and due to a deal with the producers, she was unable to sign on to any other projects which would release prior to it. During this time, she focused on her modelling career and participated in numerous ramp shows. After the release of Grahan (2001), Verma continued with her acting career and appeared in several film including Vadh (2002), Chameli (2003) and Mr. Ya Miss (2005). In 2006, she participated in the Indian reality television show, Bigg Boss.

Verma has performed on several dance shows and has hosted many live events. As a result of her academic background, she remains interested in corporate events and has hosted several of these. Though she has not had any formal dance training, she has choreographed routines for many of the shows she has been associated with, and in addition to this, has also been part of the overall event planning for a number of these, with a special interest in preparing the music mixes.

Verma has been a part of a number of social initiatives, including anti-tobacco and anti-smoking campaigns, autism awareness drives, and animal welfare initiatives by PETA like pro-vegetarianism campaigns.
