Aditya Chopra Biography
Born : 21 May 1971, in Bombay, Maharashtra, India
Aditya Chopra is the son of the late filmmaker and YRF founder Yash Chopra and Pamela Chopra. His younger brother is the one-time actor, producer, screenwriter and assistant director Uday Chopra.
Aditya Chopra did his schooling from the Bombay Scottish School in Mahim and graduated from the Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics. He was married to Payal Khanna but the couple divorced in 2009. In 2014, he married actress Rani Mukerji. They have a daughter, Adira Chopra.
Aditya Chopra entered the film industry at the age of 18 and assisted his father on films like Chandni (1989), Lamhe (1991) and the superhit Darr (1993). Aged just 23, he wrote and directed one of Hindi cinema’s most popular romances, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Amrish Puri.
Aditya Chopra wrote the dialogues for the hit musical romance Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), which was directed by his father. His next film, Mohabbatein (2000), marked the debut of his brother Uday who starred along with Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Jimmy Sheirgill, Jugal Hansraj, Shamita Shetty, Kim Sharma, Preeti Jhangiani and Aishwarya Rai.
Aditya Chopra went on to be a producer or associate producer on an array of successful movies like Saathiya (2002), Mujhse Dosti Karoge! (2002), Hum Tum (2004), Dhoom (2004), Veer-Zaara (2004), Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Salaam Namaste (2005), Fanaa (2006), Dhoom 2 (2006), Chak De! India (2007), Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008), which he also directed, Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008) and Rocket Singh: Salesman Of The Year (2009).
In 2010, Chopra produced four movies — Pyaar Impossible!, Badmaash Company, Lafangey Parindey and Band Baaja Baaraat. Most of his following productions had interesting casts and storylines. These included Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2011), Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl (2011), Ishaqzaade (2012), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012), Aurangzeb (2013), Shuddh Desi Romance (2013), Dhoom 3 (2013), Gunday (2014), Mardaani (2014), Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015), Fan (2016), Sultan (2016), Befikre (2016) and Hichki (2018).
In 2018, he produced Sui Dhaaga, a social drama directed by Sharat Katariya, and the musical romantic drama Loveyatri and the action adventure Thugs Of Hindostan starring Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Lloyd Owen. Among his forthcoming productions are Shamshera and Mardaani 2.
