Tinnu Anand could actually sink his teeth into a role — Birthday special

by   Mayur Lookhar

Who says acting is only for pretty faces? What use are good looks if one can’t emote? Better a 'flaw' that wins over audiences. Veteran actor-director Tinnu Anand is no beauty, but he can cut any pretty face to size with his distinct look and acting chops. Anand, cast variously as a henchman, henpecked husband, and even hired assassin, turned a year older today. We celebrate with a look at some of his, um, jaw-dropping scenes.

1 Pushpak (1987)

This silent film was not Tinnu Anand's first, but it was with Pushpak that he emerged into the spotlight, playing a hired assassin who comes up with a, well, ice-cool plan to kill Kamal Haasan's character and leave no trace. It's a different matter that he never manages to hit the target.

2 Yaad Rakhegi Duniya (1992)

The henpecked Shikari (Anand) is desperate to get rid of his domineering wife Komal (Radha Seth). His many attempts, however, boomerang on him. In the scariest of all his plans, Shikari buys a king cobra to kill his wife, but what transpires leaves even the snake shocked.

3  Gang (2000)

While Havildar Nagoba (Tinnu Anand) can smell money a mile away, he fails in his bid to dip into the pockets of Nana Patekar and his gang. All of Nagoba's frantic flapping and teeth flashing fail to move Patekar & Co.

4 Lajja (2001)

Madhuri Dixit had famously ripped off Tinnu Anand's ear in Anjaam (1994), but Anand got some celluloid retribution as he lured the diva into a contract marriage in Lajja. Watch how Anand flashes his wicked grin as his character gets flirtatious with his contracted wife.

5 Anji (2004)

Tinnu Anand's face has been used down South as well to create an aura of villainy. Check out his gleaming teeth in this OTT sequence from the Telugu film Anji.
