1 Hoshwalon ko khabar kya bekhudi kya cheez hai (Sarfarosh, 1999)
It was Aamir Khan, ever the perfectionist, who spotted the ghazal written by Nida Fazli at a concert by Jagjit Singh. When he heard the storyline of Sarfarosh by John Matthew Mathan, the actor requested Fazli and Singh to let the song be a part of the film. It remains one of Fazli's best and most popular compositions.
2 Kabhi kisi ko mukammal jahan nahi milta (Harjaee, 1981)
A poet of life, Nida Fazli's compositions often borrowed from the reality around him. This meaningful ghazal is the perfect representative of his life's philosophy of not taking the disappointments in life too seriously. Asha Bhosle's melodious voice and Khayyam's composition only add to its magic.
3 Ghar se masjid hai bahut door (Tamanna, 1998)
A lovely tale of a eunuch who raises an orphan, Mahesh Bhatt's Tamanna saw Paresh Rawal and Manoj Bajpayee put in splendid performances. But it was Nida Fazli's beautiful ghazal pleading the case of humanism and compassion over religion that takes the film to its high element.
4 Kabhi palkon pe aasu (Harjaee, 1981)
Randhir Kapoor might not be everyone's cup of melodrama, but he fits in perfectly alongside Kishore Kumar's sombre voice in this ghazal. Composed by RD Burman, it carries a philosophical outlook on life, love, and happiness.
5 Tu is tarah se meri zindage mein shaamil hai (Aap to aise na the, 1980)
His songs on love might be far and few, but Nida Fazli could churn out heartbreaking lyrics when he wished. This rare one by Usha Khanna, sung by Manhar Udhas, is one for the ages.
