1 Army (1996)
It was the first time Shah Rukh Khan sported a moustache. While he did look good, the revenge drama Army was too clichéd and boring even in 1996. Major Arun Singh (Khan) is killed by gangster Nagraj (Danny Denzongpa). So his on-screen wife played by Sridevi forms an army of struggling actors to take revenge.
2 Hey! Ram (2000)
A controversial period film in which Khan played a Muslim, Amjad Ali Khan, who is fatally wounded in a communal attack. This was before an extended role wasn't labelled a cameo. A commercial failure, the film received mixed reviews. Save for his bearded look, Khan did not excel in this role. However, his presence added curiousity value to Kamal Haasan's film.
3 Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega (2000)
A car accident leaves Pooja Oberoi (Rani Mukerji) in a coma. In one of the worst scenes ever, Raj (Salman Khan) decides to apply sindoor to the comatose Pooja. Just before this dreaded scene, Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) jumps into the room claiming that this woman is his wife. Moments later, it is revealed that Rahul is actually a mentally unstable patient who had trespassed into Pooja’s room. Strangely, he is casually dressed. Besides, how many mental wards do you know that are in the same location as a general hospital? Remarkably, Rahul returns in the final scene singing the title track with Raj. It’s anybody’s guess whether Rahul has recovered from his illness.
4 Shakti – The Power (2002)
A cameo that Shah Rukh Khan would probably like to forget. Most fans will only remember Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for the song 'Ishq Kameena'. Jai Singh is a compassionate Bihari goon who manages to save Nandini (Karisma Kapoor) but is fatally wounded in the bargain. Khan’s exaggerated Bihari accent grated on the ears and he impersonated Amitabh Bachchan from Agneepath (1990) in his death scene. Nevertheless, those were the days when the audience cried seeing its favourite hero die.
5 Saathiya (2002)
Arguably the finest cameo by Shah Rukh Khan so far. The actor appear towards the end of the film when his ill wife Savitri (Tabu) accidentally mows down Suhani (Rani Mukerji). Yashwant Rao (Khan) takes the blame on himself. Aditya (Vivek Oberoi) threatens Yashwant with dire consequences before Savitri reveals that it is she who is responsible for the accident. Saathiya was a fine romantic film by Shaad Ali and SRK’s presence lifted it.
6 Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaye (2005)
The film, directed by Samar Khan, was largely shot at the waiting areas of an airport where one man is rather conspicuously resting in a chair with a newspaper covering his face. In the end, the man is revealed to be none other than the superstar Shah Rukh Khan. What follows next is a silly fanfare moment where Khan is asked to play agony aunt.
7 Dulha Mil Gaya (2010)
It is credited as the first Hindi film to be shot in Trinidad and Tobago. Dulha Mil Gaya was delayed by a year and a half as Khan struggled to make time for this extended cameo. The movie was further delayed when Khan injured his shoulder in an action scene. He was initially meant to feature for a good hour in the film, including three songs. However, not even Shah Rukh Khan could resurrect Fardeen Khan’s career.
