1 Vyjayanthimala - Devdas (1955)
Vyjayanthimala became the first actor to decline the Filmfare Award given to her for Best Supporting Actress for Devdas (1955) as she felt her role of Chandramukhi and her contemporary Suchitra Sen's role of Paro were on par. She won the Best Actress award two years later for her performance in Bimal Roy's Madhumati.
2 Lata Mangeshkar - Madhumati (1958)
India's most honoured songstress refused to claim her first Filmfare trophy for the song 'Aaja Re Pardesi' from Madhumati (1958) as it was fashioned in the form of a nude woman. Eventually, the award was covered up with a handkerchief and handed to her. This was the first time that playback singers were being honoured at the ceremony.
3 Pran - Be-Imaan (1972)
Hindi cinema's top bad man, Pran, turned down his third award for Best Supporting Actor in 1972 for Be-Imaan not because he felt slighted for his performance but because he felt the music of Pakeezah and Gulam Mohammed should have won instead of Shankar-Jaikishan in Be-Imaan.
4 Reena Roy - Apnapan (1977)
Reena Roy refused her first award for Best Supporting Actress for Apnapan (1977) as she felt her part was more a leading role than a supporting performance. She later received a Best Actress nomination in 1980 for Aasha (1980).
