Are these the funniest film titles ever?

by   Sonal Pandya

Here are some of the most terrible yet amusing titles we managed to find

1 Hurricane Hansa (1937)

In the empowering Hurricane Hansa (1937), Nadia played the title character Hansa who transforms herself into 'Hurricane Hansa', a masked superhero  who vows to take revenge on Zalim, the villain who tormented and broke up her family. Her trusty and brave horse, Punjab-ka-beta, plays a key role in the film.

2 Miss Coca Cola (1955)

In Kedar Kapoor's Miss Coca Cola (1955), the title refers to a nightclub dancer played by Geeta Bali and not the popular fizzy drink. With co-star Shammi Kapoor (they got married later that year), Miss Coca Cola aka Ganga and Kamal try to figure out who is actually to blame for the murder her father is serving time for.

3 Mr. Lambu (1956)

In N.A. Ansari's Mr. Lambu (1956), Sheikh Mukhtar is the local clod who's always in and out of jail. When he tries to help out his rakhi sister who cannot wed due to his criminal reputation, he goes way in over in his head. The film's poster helpfully gives the literal meaning of the title.

4 Main Shadi Karne Chala (1962)

Set in Srinagar, Kashmir, Main Shadi Karne Chala (1962) finds I.S. Johar as a photographer Deepak who wants to marry Seema, the only condition being her four elder sisters have to marry before her. As the title suggests, Deepak sets out to find grooms for them all; Feroz Khan, Prem Chopra and Mumtaz also co-star in the film.

5 King of Carnival (1963)

Tapeshwar Prasad's King of Carnival featured a wide array of wrestlers like King Kong, Flash Gordon and Red Scorpion, but the real star of the film was Dara Singh in the lead role. The poster gives off the feel of the attractions at the carnival with wrestlers in different poses.

6 Akeli Mat Jaiyo (1963)

With a highly sexist title, Ranjit Films' Akeli Mat Jaiyo (1963), has Meena Kumari as Seema, an over-protected young woman who asks a guy in a military uniform to pose as her fiancé in order to appease her nosy friends. Co-star Rajendra Kumar is an imposter posing as the Prince Amardeep.

7 Do Number Ke Ameer (1974)

Directed by P.D. Shenoy, this social drama starred Sajid Khan and Asha Sachdev who feature prominently on the poster. Their characters fall in love despite their financial and class differences. Khan played Ravi, a honest man who tries to expose the corrupt background of his soon-to-be father-in-law but ends up in prison instead.

8 Dhoti Lota Aur Chowpatty (1975)

Known for its extra large cast of stars like Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar and character actors like Johnny Walker and Bindu, Dhoti Lota Aur Chowpatty (1975) starred actor-producer-director Mohan Choti and Farida Jalal as the leads. The film's title refers to the sole two items Girdhari brings to Chowpatty, Mumbai before becoming an multi-millionaire.

9 Dulha Bikta Hai (1982)

In Dulha Bikta Hai (1982), Raj Babbar plays an avenging brother out to assure his sisters' happiness when he can't meet the dowry demands of his in-laws. Babbar and his love interest Anita Raj are noticeably miserable on the film's poster.

10 Bandook Dahej Ke Seeney Par (1989)

Ramgopal Gupta's film on the societal evils of dowry, Bandook Dahej Ke Seeney Par (1989) starred Anita Kanwar, Archana Puran Singh, Shekhar Suman and Alok Nath. The poster for the film shows several characters armed for a good fight.
