1 The Burning Train
An inferno of an action film, The Burning Train stormed box offices across India on its release. With a powerful cast of Jeetendra, Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna and Danny Denzongpa among others, it was a thriller about a group of passengers trapped on, you guessed it right, a burning train.
2 Andhaa Yudh
Born in the midst of a parallel cinema explosion, Andha Yudh starred Raj Babbar and Nana Patekar in one of their forgotten roles. A kidnapper takes refuge in the house of a handicapped girl as the police gather around the house. The film's background score, composed by Ajit Varman, a protege of Pankaj Mullick and Shankar-Jaikishan, earned plaudits.
3 Raavan
Speaking of hitching up, the grapevine was all abuzz when Mani Ratnam signed Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for their first film post wedding. Stylishly shot, this modern take of the Ramayana proved to be a mediocre fare from the master filmmaker. Abhishek and Aishwarya still don't have a hit to their name as a couple.
4 Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya
This is the joker in the pack. A film where the kidnapper falls in love with the kidnapped...never mind. Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza starred in this fun rom-com kidnap film. The film bombed without a trace at the counters, but it made little difference to the couple who hitched up soon after.
5 Hero
It is really hard to dislike everyone's favourite 'bhidu' Jackie Shroff, even when he kidnaps you. Meenakshi Sheshadri found out in Subhash Ghai's blockbuster 80s hit 'Hero'. 3 decades later, Athiya Shroff went through the same thing with Suraj Pancholi, as they starred in Nikhil Advani's remake.
6 Highway
A rare Bollywood film about the Stockholm Syndrome, Highway was a daring experiment. Alia Bhatt stepped out of her teen idol mode to establish her credentials as an actress to watch out for. A teenage bride kidnapped on the eve of her wedding discovers the adventure and sense of freedom.
7 Neerja
Sonam Kapoor takes flight as the brave Neerja Bhanot, the only civilian to have won the Ashok Chakra for bravery, in her new film. Directed by Ram Madhvani, the film is based on the actions of the brave flight purser who helped save the lives of the passengers on the ill-fated flight.
