The most bootylicious tracks in Hindi cinema

by   Mayur Lookhar

Indian cinema has long entertained audiences with song and dance. The new millennium introduced us to the ‘item song’, usually scantily clad women sporting physiques from size zero to size voluptuous and flaunting bosom and booty. Jacqueline Fernandez has given us a timely reminder of her curves with the Beat Pe Booty track. Here is a look at some of the most bootylicious tracks in Hindi cinema over the years.

1 'Jumme Ki Raat' solo dance – Kick (2014)

As the latest bootyful story gyrates around Jacqueline Fernandez's hips, it is apt to reminisce about an even more bootyful performance from the Sri Lankan. While Devil (Salman Khan) Kick-ed many butts, there was one that had a jaw-dropping effect on both him and the audience. Often criticised for her limited acting skills, Fernandez unleashed the powers of bosom and booty in the most explosive way. Her body moved immaculately to every beat, every rhythm, leaving one dazed.

2 'All Izz Well' – 3 Idiots (2009)

All the beauty of the booty belongs to the fairer sex; men are only capable of bringing out the humour in it. Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi found themselves perched on bottom-shaped little stools that became the hallmark of the 'All Izz Well' song.

3 'Aare Pritam Pyare' – Rowdy Rathore (2012)

The first impression about this song may not be great, but it is slow poison. It only hits you as you soak in its rustic flavour. From here on, it is impossible not to tap your feet and marvel at the pelvic thrusts, chest-thumping, and majestic booty movement. Wine, women, song, and bad men, 'Aare Pritam Pyare' has all the ingredients of a dashing item number.

4 'Sarkai Lo Khatiya' – Raja Babu (1994)

A controversial song in a family film. the 'Sarkai Lo Khatiya' track was more like an invitation to mate. The lyrics were flayed by the moral police, but what irked them most was the impromptu, suggestive hip movements of Karisma Kapoor. Fans didn’t complain, however, and 'Sarkai Lo Khatiya' became a popular number.

5 'Kamli Kamli' – Dhoom 3 (2013)

Here is Aamir Khan perched on a chair that looks to the keen eye as a pole while Katrina Kaif threatens to impersonate a stripper in a club. What follows is an array of acrobatic yet seductive movements by Kaif that will leave you in a spin. Do watch out for the cartwheels.

6 'Ek Dupatta Do Do Mawaali' – Pataal Bhairavi (1985)

And how can one not mention the original queen of dirty dancing, Silk Smitha? She sent temperatures rising with her unabashed dance moves. One can run a series on her bold dancing, but we zoomed in on the 'Ek Dupatta Do Do Mawaali' track as the most bootylicious. Shakti Kapoor playing a mawaali is expected, but poor Asrani, too, got smitten by the booty of Silk Smitha.

7 'Engine Ki Seeti' – Khoobsurat (2014)

Rehana Mirza’s folk song Anjan Ki Seeti is considered a hallmark of Rajasthani music. Little did she know, however, that many years later this Anjan Ki Seeti will be blowing not through any heart, but through the gyrating hips of Sonam Kapoor! Kapoor's character was deemed a royal misfit, and the 'Engine ki seeti main mahro bum dole' track justified the billing.

8 'Akhiyan Milaoon' – Raja (1995)

Talk of Madhuri Dixit’s most seductive track and the first number that comes to mind is 'Dhak Dhak' from Beta (1992). However, when it comes to the famous booty, La Dixit famously swayed her hips best in the 'Akhiyan Milaoon' track three years later. The choreography might have been meatier if Dixit had been paired with a better dancer than Sanjay Kapoor.

9 Parody song – Eena Meena Deeka (1994)

When it comes to parodies, classic choreography goes out of the window. All you get is actors dancing with gay abandon. Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Anupam Kher & Company made a mockery of every popular track from the 1980s and early 1990s. But that is what a parody is. And one can safely assume director David Dhawan gave his choreographer BH Tharun Kumar the day off and let his actors loose. Arms, legs, heads, hips, there is hardly a part that Kher, Kapoor and Khan didn’t swing in this number.

10 'Shake That Booty' – Balwinder Singh Famous Ho Gaya (2014)

Singers Shaan and Mika tried their luck with acting, but Balwinder Singh became more famous for this raunchy item number by Sunny Leone. ‘Shake That Booty’ was the name of the song, Need we say more?
