Her breakthrough into the world of choreography and Hindi films came through the romantic number 'Pehla nasha' composed by Jatin-Lalit and written by Majrooh Sultanpuri for Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander (1992). The landmark song was shot in high speed, doubling the number of frames from 24 to 48. Farah recalled having "no panic" at the sudden promotion, "just being thrilled at the opportunity".

Farah Khan wanted to go to the Film and Television Institute of India and learn filmmaking. But that remained a dream owing to financial difficulties. Instead, she got her training in a more direct way, by working with some of the best filmmakers to have graduated from FTII. Farah choreographed songs for 1942: A Love Story (1994), Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1994) and Oh Darling Yeh Hai India (1995) for Vidhu Vinod Chopra (Class of 1976), Kundan Shah (Class of 1976) and Ketan Mehta (Class of 1975), respectively.
