Lootere first look: Hansal Mehta goes into action zone in the Disney+ Hotstar series

Hansal Mehta is known for churning out sensible dramas in the form of Shahid (2013), Aligarh (2015), Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020), to name a few. But with Disney+ Hotstar’s upcoming web-series Lootere (2022), the filmmaker is venturing into the action zone for the first time. 

The first look video (which is actually a teaser) of the project shows a captain on board a ship, played by Rajat Kapoor, noticing few boats heading towards their direction. His worst fear comes true when they forcefully hijack the ship and start attacking crew members. They are Somalian pirates who are on a mission. 

Meanwhile, we are also shown visuals of a couple, played by Vivek Gomber and Amruta Khanvilkar, going through a troubled time. The character of the guy is shown to be greedy who later faces grave consequences of his acts. 

The start of the video instantly makes you recall the iconic Hollywood movie Captain Phillips (2013). The way Kapoor’s character notices the pirates and how they approach establishes a clear inspiration from the film. 

Having said that, Lootere appears like an interesting show, going by whatever we see in the 40-seconds video. The show brings back the pair of Hansal Mehta and his son Jai as creator and director, after the highly acclaimed Scam 1992. 

Kapoor and Gomber also hold promise as far as their performances are concerned. The bad guys aren’t given much footage here.
