The poster of the Marathi historical drama Shivpratap Garudzep (2022) had shown a glimpse of the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, played by Yatin Karyekar. The makers have now revealed a solo look of the actor in character in a menacing pose.
Shivpratap Garudzep is based on one of the most well-known and iconic incidents from Maratha history where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his son Sambhaji escaped from the clutches of Aurangzeb in Agra.
The film sees Dr Amol Kolhe play the founder of the Maratha empire in the film directed by Kartik Rajaram Kendhe. Kolhe has also produced the film and has planned two more films in the franchise planned as a trilogy.
This is the second time that Karyekar is playing Aurangzeb after the television show Raja Shivchatrapati, which ran from 2008 to 2009. Co-incidentally, the show also had Kolhe playing the role of Shivaji Maharaj.
Sharing his thoughts on playing Aurangzeb again, Karyekar said in a statement, “Marathi cinema has seen some excellent artistes play villainous characters over the years and they have received the love from the audience. Before this film, I played the role of Aurangzeb in a TV show too. But to play the same character on the big screen is a different kind of joy."
"It was important for the character of Aurangzeb to match up to the personality of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj," he added. "I have tried to showing the characteristics of Aurangzeb through this role. I hope the audience will appreciate my work.”
Shivpratap Garudzep is due to be released in theatres during Dussehra on 5 October.
