Earlier this year, filmmaker Kedar Shinde cast Ankush Chaudhari in the role of Shahir Sable in the movie Maharashtra Shahir (2023). The film is based on the iconic folk artiste, social activist, singer, writer, playwright, who also happens to be Kedar’s grandfather.
The makers have now revealed that the role of the protagonist’s wife Bhanumati will be played by Sable’s great-granddaughter and Kedar’s daughter Sana Kedar Shinde.
Speaking about his grandmother, Kedar said in a statement, “My grandmother Bhanumati’s contribution in the success of my grandfather Shahir Sable was unparalleled. Bhanumati is synonymous with the melodious tunes in the life of Shahir. In this backdrop, I am delighted to announce that my daughter Sana is playing the role of Bhanumati. As a grandson, I feel proud about Shahir’s greatness, but he was greater as an artiste.”
“The biopic will explore Shahir’s life before the audience,” Kedar added while speaking about the film. “We were working on the film for the last two and a half years. The film will help youngsters and today’s generation to get many answers to their questions including our artistes from yesteryears, their struggle to achieve the feat they obtained and their contribution to their motherland through their art.”
Born as Krishanrao Sable in 1923, Shahir Sable received many honours, including the Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Akademi award.
The Marathi film is due to be released in 28 April 2023, the year of his birth centenary.
