Recently, Paritosh Painter’s Kaleidoscope Cinema and Pictures Production and Rajeshkumar Mohanty’s SR Enterprises announced their slate of upcoming seven Marathi movies. One of those films was Prasad Oak’s upcoming directorial venture Sutka starring Swwapnil Joshi and Prarthana Behere.
Speaking at the launch, Joshi said he instantly agreed to do the film for various reasons. “I was wanting to work with Prasad since long,” he said. “We had almost worked together two or three times. Somehow it didn’t work out. When I was narrated the film and I got to know that Prasad is directing, it would have been very difficult to say no. It was a no-brainer. I had 100 reasons to do this film. I am happy that I am doing a film like this at this stage of my career.”
Oak said that with Sutka, he experienced something he never experienced before as a director. “For my first three films as a director [Kaccha Limbu (2017), Hirkani (2019) and Chandramukhi (2022)], I had to struggle a lot by going door-to-door to meet producers. But this is the first time in my life that a producer has offered me to direct a film. So this is a very important film for me,” the filmmaker said.
Joshi was also thankful to Painter and Mohanty for their ambitious announcement of producing as many as seven films. “You can see how different the subjects are of all the films,” he said. “This is not a field where one just needs to add two and two to make it four. One needs daring and confidence to do this. They are lovers of art and that’s why films on such subjects are announced here, for which I am happy and proud. It feels good that from all the films announced, one is ours.”
