Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022), which stars Ranbir Kapoor in the titular role, might have got a mixed response from critics. But the film has managed to create a buzz with its announcement of the second movie in the trilogy titled Brahasmtra Part Two: Dev.

For those who haven't yet watched the film, the character of Dev is shown to be Shiva’s father when the film ends, but the face of the actor remains hidden.

In an interview with the digital edition of Indian Express, Mukerji has said that the second part will see the problems the community, referring to Amitabh Bachchan’s character Guru and his disciples, will face because of the Brahmastra and the story will move back and forth.

“All of this will actually unfold in Dev’s story,” the filmmaker said. “His story is meant to take us back into his past but also he has returned into the present. So, the idea is, we will be continuing the present story, but also telling you the story of the past.”

Sharing more about the second movie, he said, “I really feel we will really come into our own with our storytelling in part two. I have known that for a long time. Part one was just the foundation, the setup of this story. But I can’t tell you who Dev is. When the time is right, I will announce.”

The first film was about Shiva, played by Kapoor, who realizes his superhuman powers linked to the ancient weapon Brahmastra. The film features Mouni Roy as the antagonist Junoon while Alia Bhatt plays Shiva’s love interest Isha.

The film was seven years in the making. However, Mukeji said that the second part is due to be released by around 2025. “We have our target,” he explained. “We would like to make this film and have it come out three years from now. It is a tough timeline for us considering how much time part one took. But now we have also learnt how to make these kinds of films.”

The filmmaker also said that the script of the second part has been locked since awhile now. “Part two script has been on since the time we started part one,” he said. “This was always one story. The thread is ready. We have already put in a lot of work into part two. We have written and rewritten because we had time, COVID had happened.”
