Would be lying if I said I have done a lot of hard work for Prithviraj: Akshay Kumar

Directed by Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the film is based on the 12th-century ruler Prithviraj Chauhan.

During various interactions and interviews, Akshay Kumar would always state that he relies on directors to get into character instead of doing in-depth preparations. Apparently, nothing has changed in the case of his upcoming historical epic Prithviraj.

Directed by Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the film is based on the life of the 12th-century ruler Prithviraj Chauhan.

At the trailer launch of the film, when Akshay was asked if he had to unlearn anything in order to play a real historical character, he replied, “Unlearn kya hai? Woh kya hota hai? [What is unlearning]”

When he was told the meaning of the word, he stated, “I just followed my director. Whatever he used to ask me to do or say in a particular way, I have learnt from him. I hadn’t brought anything from my side into the film. I didn’t unlearn or anything. I just used to come and listen to him and perform. If I said I have done a lot of hard work, it would be a lie.”

Akshay was over the moon when he was offered the film. “When I was told that I have to play Prithviraj Chauhan, it was a big honour for me,” he said. “At that time, I felt my life was worth it. So I would like to thank Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi ji. I would also like to thank Adi [Aditya] Chopra [the head honcho of Yash Raj Films] for taking up the task of producing this film.”

Produced and distributed by Yash Raj Films, Prithviraj will be released in theatres on 3 June.
