The first National Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir (NFFJK) has been announced. Organized by the Film Development Council in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation, the festival will be held in Srinagar from 15 to 20 June.

The government has been trying to boost tourism and film shooting in the state, and the festival seems to be a step in that direction.

According to the NFFJK website, the idea behind this film festival is to highlight the film, music and creative ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir as well as the natural and socio-cultural beauty that the region has been blessed with.

“The film festival will be a congregation of the best of films and music, filmmakers, music artists and other allied talent and serve as a reservoir of creativity and inspiration for anyone across the world who aspire to live, love and breathe films and music,” the entry on the site reads.

Prizes across more than 40 categories will be presented. Indian filmmakers have been invited to submit their fiction, documentary or short films and music videos.
