The music album of Shieladitya Moulik’s upcoming film Hridpindo, starring Arpita Chatterjee, Saheb Chatterjee and Prantik Banerjee, has made a splash. Two years ago, the makers first launched the audio track 'Mon Kyamoner Jonmodin', which was composed by Ranajoy Bhattacharjee and went viral.
Bhattacharjee also worked with Moulik in his debut film Sweater (2019) and delivered the hit song 'Preme Pora Baron', which featured vocals by Lagnajita Chakraborty.
After a long wait, the video of 'Mon Kyamoner Jonmodin' as well as those of the Hridpindo songs 'Hridpinder Taan' and 'Chithi Chithi Din' have been launched ahead of the film’s release.
“It has been quite an emotional journey working in Hridpindo,” said Bhattacharjee. “We started on this journey three years back. Both Shieladitya Da and I were staying in Mumbai then because of the lockdown. We regularly used to sit and discuss the music.”
Bhattacharjee added, “The songs have been popular for two years now, not only in Kolkata but also all over India, I would say. The overwhelming response we received from Bengalis staying all around the globe was quite unexpected as the songs were not released with visuals then.”
The composer reportedly receives hundreds of covers of the songs every day and according to him, the renditions are pretty good.
'Mon Kyamoner Jonmodin' has been sung by Mekhla Dasgupta, the former finalist of the reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. “I think the album has been a turning point for Mekhla. People have begun to recognize both my work and Mekhla more due to 'Mon Kyamoner Jonmodin',” said Bhattacharjee.
The composer further revealed that the melodious romantic number was originally conceived as a single for Mekhla. “I made Shieladitya Da listen to the song. He loved the song so much that he wanted me to use it for the film. Sheila Da also said that the song made it easier for him to convince the producers to back the film,” he added.
There are two versions of 'Mon Kyamoner Jonmodin' in the film. Bhattacharjee revealed, “The first rendition conveys the happiness of a union and the version I have rendered is rather mellow and tragic. I think Shiela Da has done a wonderful job in visually treating both renditions.”
For 'Hridpinder Taan', Bhattacharjee was asked to compose a song that could give voice to intense unspoken grief. The song is about longing and unrequited love. The number features vocals by Durnibar Saha.
“The tune 'Chithi Chithi Din' was quite challenging for me,” said the composer. “I had the brief to compose a song, which could trigger nostalgia for 1990s music. The song has been composed keeping the innocent lively attitude of teenagers in mind. Chithi Chithi Din has been written by Tamoghna Chatterjee, and Chandrika Bhattacharjee has sung the song beautifully.”
Bhattacharjee is eagerly awaiting the release of the film, which will be out in theatres on 13 May.
