For his first acting role in four years, Aamir Khan is again pulling out all stops to market the film in a unique way. The actor-producer unveiled the first podcast from his upcoming Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), directed by Advait Chandan, and shared some never-heard-before info on the music and the making of the Forrest Gump (1994) remake.
Khan, who recorded the podcast from the film’s shoot in Rajasthan, said he had been working on the film for nearly 14 years, with a large part of the time spent trying to acquire the rights to the Hollywood classic starring Tom Hanks.
The first song from the feature was quietly released online on 28 April. Khan said he and the makers wanted audiences to have a chance to listen to the songs of the film before releasing them as videos.
The song 'Kahani', sung by Mohan Kannan, has been written by Amitabh Bhattacharya and composed by Pritam. Khan also shared audio clips from the initial meetings about the making of the song. The first song, he said, was a bit philosophical, like a theme song. ‘Kahani’ is the opening song of the film and explores the question, does life happen to us or can we control the events that happen around us?
The musical discussions were held at Khan’s Panchgani home and the actor unveiled the audio clip of the first time they all heard the tune of ‘Kahani’ from Pritam and Bhattacharya together. He also recalled how he wanted the lyricist to sing, but eventually director Chandan decided that Mohan Kannan should render the song.
Adapted by actor-writer Atul Kulkarni, the Hindi film also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Telugu star Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh, with a special cameo by Shah Rukh Khan. Laal Singh Chaddha is due to be released in theatres on 11 August.
