It’s official at last. Farhan Akhtar will appear in the upcoming Disney+ web-series Ms Marvel, featuring Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, a teenager who discovers she has super powers.
According to an exclusive report on the Hollywood trade website Deadline.com, Farhan Akhtar will make a guest appearance in the series. His character has not yet been revealed.
The actor-filmmaker was long rumoured to have a part in the upcoming superhero series. The production was wrapped up in May 2021 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Last December, Pakistani actor Fawad Khan confirmed that he, too, is acting in the superhero series and had a “wonderful experience”. Khan, too, did not say what part he was playing in the series.
Vellani’s Kamala Khan is a Muslim American teenager living in Jersey City, who is also a keen gamer and fan-fiction writer. A Captain Marvel fan, Kamala feels like an outsider until she discovers her own powers.
Created by writer and executive producer Bisha K Ali, Ms Marvel has been directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. The Disney+ series is due to be premiered on 8 June.
The ensemble cast includes Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Travina Springer and Nimra Bucha.
Last seen on screen in the boxing drama Toofaan (2021), Akhtar is gearing up to direct his fifth feature Jee Le Zaraa, starring Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt. He is also producing several series and features under his banner Excel Entertainment with partner Ritesh Sidwani.
