Team Dharmaveer, including director Pravin Tarde, producer Mangesh Desai and Zee Studio’s business head Mangesh Kulkarni, met filmmaker SS Rajamouli yesterday in Hyderabad to show him the film’s teaser.
Touched after meeting Rajamouli, Tarde shared his experience in a statement that read, “I have always considered Rajamouli sir my idol. The way he has succeeded in spreading South cinema all over the world motivates me to do the same for Marathi cinema. I always wanted to meet him. My wish finally came true because of Dharmaveer. He spoke with us with humility and shared some of his experiences. Through this meet, we found a fresh breath of energy to make Marathi cinema into world cinema.”
Desai added, “When I saw Baahubali (2015), I never thought of meeting the man who gave birth to that film. But that wish came true today. I was excited and nervous before meeting him. But as soon as he started speaking to us, all that nervousness went away. We got to experience his simplicity and humility.”
Equally enamoured by Rajamouli, Kulkarni said, “Rajamouli sir has the vision one should have towards cinema and storytelling. I am a fan of his films Makkhi (Eega, 2012), Magadheera (2009), Baahubali and the recently released RRR (2022). He has proved how regional cinema can be spread everywhere instead of being limited to people of that language. From today’s conversation, we got to know about his love and command over the medium of cinema.”
He added, “When we showed the film’s teaser to him, he said that although he couldn’t understand the language, he liked the look. He was also impressed with the performances and the background score. His feedback and appreciation hold a lot of importance to us. We received such positive vibes from him.”
Dharmaveer is a biopic of the late Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe. Produced by Zee Studios and Sahil Motion Arts and distributed by the former company, the film will be released in theatres on 13 May.
