The 2023 edition of the Sundance Film Festival will take place as a hybrid event in Park City, Salt Lake City, Utah, and beyond, from 19 to 29 January 2023.

In a statement, festival director Tabitha Jackson said, “We can’t wait to return to our home in Park City and present exciting new work from around the world live and in person. We also have two years of digital exhibition and participation under our collective belt, and are returning to the excitement and immediacy of live events while retaining a powerful online offering.”

According to the press release, next year’s programme will include world-premiere feature films, short films, episodic work and a full New Frontier programme that will be larger than those presented digitally in the last two years.

Submissions for next year are now open via FilmFreeway. The deadlines for feature film submissions are 12 August (early), 5 September (official) and 26 September (late). Short film submissions will close on 1 August (early), 19 August (official) and 5 September (late).  Additional details on other deadlines and applications and frequently asked questions, are available here.

This year’s edition went virtual after being planned as a hybrid version because of the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the US two weeks before the festival was to be held. The 2021 edition was also held virtually; two of the films that were premiered at the festival last year CODA and Summer of Soul (...or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) went on to win the respective Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Documentary.
