Mukta Barve is threatened by a large German Shepherd dog in writer-director Ajit Suryakant Wadikar's thriller Y (2022).
A 35-second teaser for the film begins with a peacefully asleep Barve waking up to find a large snarling canine standing over her. Barve's character is almost paralyzed with fear. Why is the ferocious creature angry with her? And how will she extricate herself from this predicament?
The teaser does not give any idea about the film's plot. Recently, the makers had unveiled a poster for the film which featured Barve in an aggressive avatar with a torch in hand and black polythene bags with splotches of blood on them in the foreground.
The poster and the teaser have stirred up a lot of curiosity about the film's topic and plot.
About the unusual title, director Wadikar said, "There is a lot of meaning behind this title. Y is the story of our existence, our struggle for existence. You all want to know the meaning of this teaser and the film's title, but for that you will have to watch this film."
Y also stars Prajakta Mali, but the makers have not made any official announcement about her casting yet.
The project is backed by Control-N Production, and will be distributed by AA Films.
Y is set to arrive in cinemas on 24 June. The film will mark Barve's return to the big screen after more than three years. Her previous release in theatres was Saleel Kulkarni's romantic family drama Wedding Cha Shinema (2019).
