Box office: Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 likely to enter Rs100 crore club, Anek opens poorly

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022), starring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani, is likely to enter the Rs100 crore club today.

The horror-comedy, directed by Anees Bazmee, earned Rs6.25 crore nett on its second Friday, taking its overall collections to Rs96.5 crore nett, according to trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.

This is the lead actor’s second film to enter the club after Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018).

Meanwhile, the Friday release Anek (2022), starring Ayushmann Khurrana, opened poorly with only Rs1.75 crore nett. The Anubhav Sinha film, made on a budget of Rs45 crore, could perform better over the weekend, but with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 holding steady, it could face stiff competition.

The Hollywood film Top Gun: Maverick (2022), starring Tom Cruise, is set to underperform in India. The film, which opened in select theatres on Wednesday, has earned Rs3.75 crore nett.

Even so, the sequel to the 1986 classic is expected to fare better than the Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer. In North America, however, the Joseph Kosinski film is expected to smash records and earn nearly $150 million over the four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend.
