Filmmaker Hansal Mehta, who is known for some fine projects like Shahid (2013), Aligarh (2016) and Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020), got hitched to his lady love at a private ceremony yesterday.
Mehta had been in a relationship with Safeena Hussain for 17 years. The couple has two daughters.
Mehta took to Instagram to make the announcement: “So after 17 years, two children, watching our sons growing up and chasing our respective dreams we decided to get hitched. As always in life this was also impromptu and unplanned. Our vows however were truthful and but for this little ceremony they would never have been said. Ultimately love prevails over all else. And it has...”
The filmmaker said the decision was an impromptu one while they were in San Francisco, California.
Mehta was earlier married to Sunita Mehta with whom he has two sons. His son Jai Mehta had co-directed Scam 1992 with him. Jai shared Mehta and Safeena's picture and wrote, “My parents got married.”
Several industry friends like Rajkummar Rao, Pratik Gandhi and Huma Qureshi showered their love in comments on Mehta’s pictures. Many even called this ‘Modern Love’ as a reference to the recent Amazon Prime Video series Modern Love Mumbai which is an anthology. Mehta directed the segment Baai in the series.
The filmmaker has begun work on his next project, Scam 2003: The Telgi Story, where he is the showrunner but the series will be directed by Tushar Hiranandani. Actor Gagan Dev Riar is set to play Abdul Karim Telgi in it.
