The scenario of a man trapped between two women is not new or unique in Indian cinema. Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara and Samantha's Tamil romantic comedy Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kadhal (2022), which was released a few weeks ago, also explores the subject of a love triangle comprising two women and a man.
The Marathi film Medium Spicy, starring Lalit Prabhakar, Sai Tamhankar and Parna Pethe, explores the same subject, but in a serious manner.
Prabhakar plays a five-star hotel chef, who is planning to move to Paris. There are two women in his life — his boss Gawi (Tamhankar) and young colleague Prajakta (Pethe). Both women are completely the opposite of each other. The latter is a young woman with a promising career ahead of her while the former is a financially secure woman who is probably in her early or mid-thirties.
Apart from Prabhakar's character's women troubles, his typical middle-class Maharashtrian family is not happy with his decision to move to Paris. Sagar Deshmukh, who also plays a chef, is his only moral support.
The trailer hints that the film will give its viewers a lot to ponder over, especially about relationships and loneliness. Written by Irawati Karnik and produced and directed by Vidhi Kasliwal and Mohit Takalkar respectively, Medium Spicy is set to arrive in cinemas on 17 June.
