As soon as the trailer for director Raj Mehta’s Jugjugg Jeeyo was released, Pakistani singer Abrar-u-Haq claimed that the song played in the trailer, ‘Nach Punjaban’, violates his copyright.

Reacting to the trailer on Twitter, Abrar said, “I have not sold my song ‘Nach Punjaban’ to any Indian movie and reserve the right to go to court to claim damages. Producers like Karan Johar should not use copy songs. This is my sixth song being copied which will not be allowed.”

Yesterday, T-Series, the music label for Jugjugg Jeeyo, claimed that it had acquired the rights to the song. In a statement on Twitter, the company said, 'We have legally acquired the rights to adapt the song ‘Nach Punjaban’ released on iTunes 1 January 2002 and also available on Lollywood Classics’ YouTube channel, owned and operated by Moviebox Record Label, for the film Jugjugg Jeeyo produced by Dharma Productions.'

The company said all due credits would be included across all platforms when the song is released online. It said Moviebox Record Label holds the copyright to the song exclusively and has the documents to prove it.

Abrar-ul-Haq responded to say that the “song ‘Nach Punjaban’ has not been licensed to anyone. If someone is claiming it, then produce the agreement. I will be taking legal action.”

Starring Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor, Kiara Advani and Neetu Singh, Jugjugg Jeeyo will be released on 24 June 2022.
