Tamasha Live will always be the first film to present a 'Naandi', says Siddharth Jadhav

Director Sanjay Jadhav is coming up with the multi-starrer Tamasha Live. As the title suggests, the film will have the backdrop of the folk art form, Tamasha. Produced by Akshay Bardapurkar’s Planet Marathi banner, the film has a large cast that includes Sonalee Kulkarni, Siddharth Jadhav, Sachit Patil, Bharat Jadhav, Hemangi Kavi, Nagesh Bhonsle, Mrunal Deshpande, Yogesh Soman, Pushkar Jog and Manmeet Pem.

The makers launched a song 'Naandi' from the film recently at veteran art director Nitin Desai’s ND Studios in Karjat. For those who may not be familiar with Marathi theatre, ‘Naandi’ is a song performed by artistes before the start of a Tamasha performance or a play. For the first time the number has been tried in a movie. This is why Siddharth Jadhav is excited to be a part of this song.

“As we know, naandi is performed first; the tamasha later,” he told Cinestaan.com after the launch. “But a different experiment took place today on the birth anniversary of Dadasaheb Phalke (30 April), the man who gave birth to Indian cinema. I am proud to be a part of this naandi. Even if someone does it in the future [in a movie], we would always be the ones to do it first. It feels good that it took place in Nitin Chandrakant Desai’s ND Studios in front of 2,000 people.”

Through the song, the makers have paid tribute to the stalwarts of Marathi cinema, from Dadasaheb Phalke through V Shantaram to Nagraj Manjule.

“The credit goes to Sanjay Jadhav sir,” said Siddharth Jadhav. “It’s his vision. The credit also goes to lyricist Kshitij Patwardhan and music composer Pankajj Padghan. I consider myself fortunate to be a part of this industry, this movie and this 'Naandi'.”

The song has been sung by Shaunak Abhisheki, Anand Bhate, Rahul Deshpande and Anuradha Kuber.

Siddharth Jadhav has been in quite a few multi-starrers in his career so far, but it doesn't faze him. “I don’t think about films as multi-starrers or otherwise,” he said. “Every film has a story and characters and each of them is played by a different artiste. My aim is to play my character to the best of my abilities. I enjoy working with different actors. So I enjoyed working in Tamasha Live as well.”

He also said he feels fortunate at this stage of his career after having passed through several phases. “I feel good as an artiste because writers and directors approach me these days to get something different out of me,” he remarked.

Tamasha Live is slated to be released in theatres on 24 June.
