After last weekend's two new releases, Heropanti 2 (2022) and Runway 34 (2022), opened to poor numbers, there did not seem to be much hope for recovery of both movies and that is exactly what has happened.
Starring Tiger Shroff, Tara Sutaria and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Heropanti 2 showed a downward trend over its first three days in theatres, something that is very rarely seen. After opening at Rs6.25 crore nett, the Ahmed Khan directorial venture made Rs4.75 crore on Saturday and only Rs4 crore on Sunday for a grand total of Rs15 crore, according to trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.
Ajay Devgn’s Runway 34 was spared the embarrassment of a drop in numbers on the opening weekend, but that was the only silver lining for the film as its collection remains poor. Following a Rs3 crore opening, the film, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh, collected Rs4.50 crore and Rs5.50 crore nett in the next two days. Its total collection stands at Rs13 crore currently.
According to trade pundits, Heropanti 2 was made on a budget of about Rs70 crore while Runway 34 cost nearly Rs65 crore. Given the poor first weekend performance, it does not appear that either film stands any chance of recovering its investment at the box office.
On the other hand, the Hindi version of director Prashanth Neel’s KGF: Chapter 2 (2022) continued to do well even on its third weekend, earning Rs20 crore nett. The film made Rs9 crore on Sunday alone. With this, the Yash-starrer’s total collection in Hindi has now reached Rs360.80 crore nett.
